We’d be delighted to welcome you as a new member to our credit union!
As long as you live or work in our Common Bond, you’re free to join us. Our Common Bond covers a large area. It centres on Portlaoise, Athy, Abbeyleix and Stradbally, but it also extends past Ballyfin in the West, past Stradbally in the East, to Emo in the North and almost to Durrow in the South.
An appointment is necessary for membership application. It’s a legal requirement to ensure that your application form is submitted with photographic proof of identity (such as a driving licence or passport) and proof of address (such as a utility bill dated within the last three months). Please see a full list of requirements here.
If you encounter difficulties in providing any of these items, our staff members will try and help you with alternatives.
You’ll be asked to complete a nomination form once you are over the age of 16 years, when you join our credit union. This form allows you to nominate a person to receive your savings and insurance benefits in the event of your death.
One of the many benefits of belonging to a credit union is that the money you have saved in your shares account will be paid out quickly to your nominated loved one without attracting inheritance tax or waiting for probate where funds under nomination do not exceed the maximum amount which can be paid. The maximum value is €23,000.
